Obverse: Portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth from a classic Dorothy Wilding photograph on the left, a water-mark panel on the right, and the value in words TWO RUPEES in single lines in center and in figures 2 on the top two corners. CENTRAL BANK OF CEYLON at upper centre "This note is issued on behalf of the Government of Ceylon and is legal tender in Ceylon of the payment of any amount" in four lines. The date appears above the two facsimile signatures (Minister of Finance and Governor Central Bank of Ceylon). Lower the value in Sinhala on left and Text in Tamil on right.
Reverse: Medirigiriya Vatadage, Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. Centered on top CENTRAL BANK OF CEYLON, the value in figures 2 on three corners. The value in Sinhala on left, in English at lower right and in Tamil at upper right.

Medirigiriya Vatadage is one of the oldest ruin in South Asia, According to the historical records, Watada geya has build up before 1900 years. During the Polonnaruwa kingdom, it has build to protect the stupa from rain and sun. It's situated 40 km s away from Polonnaruwa. These unbelievable construction still stands without falling down. The meaning of Vatadage, the house around the stupa. It has created only from the thick stone. It's circumstances is 57 feet. Hight 25 feet. There are four entrances made out of stone. The size of door frame is 8.4' x 4.8' , Therefore we can imagine the size of the well-grown person in this era. People believe these giant works has done by giants. There are three lines of stone towers. There are 20 towers in forst circle and another 16 towers in 2nd circle. Altogether there are 68 stone towers. Each tower has finished nicely. veb today we cant imagine how they have finished these wonderful works. It is like machine cut work, Every angle sharp equal 90 degrees. Top of the tower there are many decorations.
