Obverse: Portrait of Georgios Stavros, first governor of the National Bank of Greece and Coat of arms of the Kingdom Greece. Central vignette: Alexander routs the Persians, detail of the Alexander Sarcophagus.
The carvings on one long side of the Alexander Sarcophagus depict Alexander fighting the Persians at the Battle of Issus, ca. 310 BC, Archeological Museum, Istanbul.
Reverse: The head of Alexander the Great from a Tarsus coin in Cilicia.
