Obverse: The vignette, impressed in blue, carries a floating ribbon in the upper part, and at its centre the Royal coat of arms. The vertical sides have two putti resting on a pediment, each sustaining a rectangular placard with the figure "1000". The bottom edge of the vignette is occupied by two large female figures, Industry on the left and Agriculture on the right. Industry has her hand on a hammer; beside her is a large gear-wheel, behind her an anvil and the top of a smoking smokestack; alongside, two gear-wheels on a single axle. Agriculture holds a sickle in her left hand and, on her shoulder, a sheaf of wheat; behind, grapevines and a beehive. In the background, the sea with a steamship and a small lateen-sailed boat.
Reverse: The vignette, impressed in blue, carries in the centre a large curled picture frame depicting a bust of Italia. The vertical sides of the vignette show two trophies: the one on the left composed of instruments relating to chemistry, physics, astronomy, geodetic surveying, and navigation; on the right, instruments and products proper to sculpture, architecture, painting, music, drama, and ceramics. Along the top side of the vignette, laurel branches; at the bottom, two grape vines with leaves and bunches of grapes and two cornucopias overflowing with fruit and flowers.
