Italy 50 Lire banknote 1894 Banca Nazionale Nel Regno d’Italia. P-S741
Obverse: The vignette, printed in blue, carries a decoration in each corner bearing the coats of arms of the main cities in which the Bank had offices: Milan and Venice, upper left; Florence and Rome, upper right; Genoa and Turin, lower left; Naples and Palermo, lower right. Top centre we find the Royal coat of arms borne by two winged putti. Between the two decorations in the lower part of the note is a depiction of Justice seated with scales in her right hand and sword in the left. At her feet, two lions with medallions bearing a warning against counterfeiters. Next to them, on the ground, two seated putti: the one on the left, holding a caduceus, leans on a bale of goods; the one on the right is hammering on an anvil. On the left side of the vignette, inside an oval medallion, there is the head of Italy with a turreted crown, surmounted by a star radiant.
Reverse: The vignette, printed in blue, carries in each corner an ornate disc, sustained by putti who, from the hips down, end in an ornate decoration of leaves and stems. At the centre, in the space left by the friezes, are two medallions with two turret-crowned heads of Italy facing each other; between them an anchor and the Royal coat of arms.
