The Malaya & British Borneo $1 note was issued in 1st March 1959 but only released to public on 1st June 1959. This was the first note issued by Federation of Malaya after its nation independent in 1957.

Obverse: Sailing fishing boat with a broken gold security thread on the right and a Malayan tiger's head watermark in centre. This note was signed by Tun Lee Hau Shik.
Reverse: Fishermen pulling a fishing boat and State emblems of the then five states i.e. Brunei, Sarawak, Federation of Malaya, Singapore and Sabah.

The Malaya and British Borneo dollar (known as the ringgit in Malay) was the currency of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, North Borneo, Brunei and Riau archipelago from 1953 to 1967. The currency was issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya and British Borneo.
