In the field central text: Banca Naţională a României (National Bank of Romania) / 28 Fevruariu 1881, Una Mie Lei (One Thousand Lei) / Governor (Guvernator) - I. Câmpineanu, Director - E. Costinescu, Head Cashier (Casier Central) - D. Peleanu.
Reverse: Two medallions representing the heads of the god Mercury, with frame decorated with astragalus.
Watermark: Profile of a female head (personification of Dacia) in left-hand side medallion and Profile of the Roman Emperor Trajan in right-hand side medallion, in the center: BNR (Banca Naţională a României - National Bank of Romania) & 1000 LEI.
