Obverse: Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Capital letter "G". Coat of arms of Gibraltar at right. Dated 1 January 2011. Signature of Dilip Dayaram Tirathdas (as Commissioner of Currency). Windowed security thread with demetalized text on front. One horizontal and one vertical 6-digit serial number (both with nurmerals of ascending size) with fractional prefix.
Reverse: The Moorish Castle in Gibraltar. The oldest parts of the Moorish Castle date back to the 11th century. The castle consisted of three wards rising from the area of what is today Casemates Square to the Tower of Homage, which was rebuilt in the 14th century. Even today it dominates the old City. The Upper Ward of the Castle and the Tower of Homage are featured on the back of the new £5 banknote.
