In 2005 the central bank published a new 2000 Rials banknote that was replace the old 2000 Rials banknote from previous series. The banknote is in the same style as the 20000 Rials but with a more realistic portrait of the Ayatollah. Like the preceding bank note, the Holy mosque of Mecca is shown on the reverse. This is considered as the first banknote published after the 2005 presidential election in which Mr. Ahmadinejad was elected. The banknote is signed by his minister of Wealth & economic affairs, Mr. Danesh Jafari and Mr. Sheibani as the general director of the Central bank.

Obverse: The portrait of Imam Khomeini at right (The Late Imam Ayatolah Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini - former political and spiritual leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and a Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic). Lilac and green on multicolored underprint.
Signatures: Dr. Tahmaseb Mazaheri & Davood Danesh Jafaari.
Reverse: The Black Stone, or al-Ḥajar al-Aswad, is the eastern cornerstone of the Kaaba, the ancient stone building, located in the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Color: Onion-skin purple

Paper Specifications:
Watermark: The portrait of Imam Khomeini in the left part of the banknote is embedded in the paste of paper. When the Banknote is held up to the light, the image can be seen from both sides.
Security Thread: A 1 mm wide polyester thread, with the microprint of the name of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran "Bank Markazi Jomhouri Islami Iran" in Farsi script is embedded in the paper. When viewed under ultra violet light, this thread is seen in blue, yellow and red colors.
Paper: 100% cotton
Invisible Fluorescent Fibers: Fluorescent colored fibers in green, blue, red and yellow embedded in the paste of paper become visible under ultra violet light on the obverse and reverse sides.

Printing Specifications:
Printing Technic: Dry Offset
Serial Number: Letterpress printing of serial number with single color fluorescent ink, changes under ultra violet light to golden color.
Microprint: The name of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran "Bank Markazi Jomhouri Islami Iran" in Farsi script is in microprint and appears in the two purple rectangles on either side of the front upper side. The text is visible under a magnifying glass.
See-Through: On the lower-left side there is a "See-Through Image" of the denomination (2000) which is completed when the banknote is held up to the light.
Intaglio Printing: This feature can be easily detected by touch in some parts of the Banknote.
Intaglio Sign for the blind: On the lower-left of the front side there are two intaglio dots for the visually handicapped.
Latent Image: When the banknote is tilted horizontally at eye level and held under a light source, the numeral "2000" appears in the dark floral design on the bottom of the front side.
