Bank of Cape Verde - Banco de Cabo Verde

The issuance of this new version of the 200$00 (two hundred escudos) note is the result of the process to review the bank’s previous family of banknotes, which began in 1999, and was dictated by the need to incorporate the latest technological advances related to security and handling, as well as the need to replace the notes.

The front of the note is dominated by the portrait of the ship “Ernestina”, placed on a medallion representing the firmament. Over this medallion and on the left side of the note, there’s the text “20 de Janeiro de 2005” (January 20, 2005), the date of its issue.
Over the support base of the Ernestina and over a light green band, there’s the text “200 DUZENTOS ESCUDOS” (TWO HUNDRED ESCUDOS), written on two lines. This band covers the watermark crafted from a portrait of Amílcar Cabral and supports circular elements along the entire width of the note. Over this same band, there’s the inscription “BANCO DE CABO VERDE”, written on two lines in the upper left corner, and a vertical numbering of the note, with the numbers in ascending form; the numbers are dark green and are printed with fluorescent ink, on the right side.
Also over the band, on the left side, there’s a detail of the pano-de-obra, which is printed in intaglio and serves as an element that enables the visually impaired to identify the note.
In the lower left corner, over a horizontal band representing the sea, there’s a horizontal numbering of the note, with the numbers in ascending form and printed with machine-readable magnetic ink.

On the back of the note, there is a composition alluding to some means of communication; over it, there’s a light green band, on the upper left corner of which there’s a vertically oriented ear of corn. On the right side of this band, there are the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Cape Verde and a detail of the pano-de-obra.
The security thread, which is on the back of the note, from left to right, is embedded in paper and it is machine-readable. The paper is made of 100% cotton fluorescent fibers and is treated with a protective platinum layer to increase its durability.

Dimensions: 121 x 62 mm.
