The 10-kroon banknotes were printed in 1991 and 1992 by the British printing house Thomas De La Rue and Company Ltd.

Obverse: The front side of the banknote features Jakob Hurt (1839–1907) – an Estonian folklorist, theologian, linguist and one of the prominent figures of the national awakening movement in the 19th century. He was one of the organisers of the first Song Festival in 1869 and his sermons contributed to the idea of Estonian-language school education. Jakob Hurt initiated and led a vast campaign to collect Estonian folklore.
Signatures: Governor Siim Kallas and Member of the Board Raimund Hagelberg.

Reverse: The back side of the banknote displays a view of the Tamme-Lauri oak tree at Urvaste in Võrumaa. It is the oldest oak in Estonia with the broadest diameter. At 130 centimetres, the oak is 8 metres in girth and its age is 680 years.

Watermark depicting three lions; it can be seen when the banknote is held against the light. The watermark is divided into two parts on the edges of the banknote: one displays the head, forelegs and body of the lions, and the other, their hind legs.
2. Light vertical transparent security thread with a dark micro-printed repeating text “EESTI PANK”.
3. Left-hand side, at the top: a rosette surrounded by a band of microprinted repeating text “EESTI PANK”.
4. Latent denomination "10" in the middle of the rosette, visible when the banknote is held against the light at an angle.
5. UV fluorescent numerals “101010” to the right of the portrait.
6. Yellow area on the back side that fluoresces yellow under UV light.
7. Signatures. Governor Siim Kallas and Member of the Board Raimund Hagelberg.
8. Two letters of the Latin alphabet followed by a 6-digit serial number. Black horizontal number appears
on the left-hand side at the bottom and red vertical number on the right-hand side. The latter is of the main colour of the banknote.
9. A multi-coloured guilloche in the lower-right corner on the front side which includes coloured and uncouloured areas. Denomination "10" in the middle of the element.
10. The same pattern with similar coloured and uncoloured areas is displayed on the back side; the location of the pattern overlaps with that on the front side.
11. The coloured and uncoloured areas on the front and back sides overlap fully when the banknote is held against the light and a full image
is displayed.
